Altair of Pain's new EP Severe Scourage is brutal, yet very enjoyable ride. Five-piece slaughter from Madeira can truly make a big splash to the death metal world in years to come.
Their sound emerged from slightly above average debut album which was not really more than compilation of released songs, battling between more classic death metal and brutal punk driven gore. Only few track foreshadowing what they are capable of..
In 2012 they returned with Polished, sophisticated balance between straithforward Death metal and catchy well executed solos, catchy riffs, memorable moments and bits in the reminiscence of old sound.
Half of hour of energy blast with no downsides, no boring second, delivering one of the best death metal EP of 2010s and in my eyes surprising great Immolation EP from 2011 with no problem leaving American beasts behind and drawing some shadows of even greater things to come.
This EP is must for every death metal fan.

solid death metal that makes for a brutal listening experience
Heard this on Youtube, and downloaded, this is a good release coming all the way from Madeira Island- Portugal, Altar of Pain are an underground band, with no live shows, labels or anything like that, just a demo a previous album, and now this EP, even though the production could be better, it works well with the music, the EP is loaded with good and catchy riffs and a few solos that combine well with the music, drumming is insane, but i think it´s a drum machine, nevertheless great job with it, sounds like Pete Sandoval mixed with Behemoth´s Inferno at times, the vocals are traditional death metal gutural growls... and are sometimes high-pitched growls too, sometimes combined and work well together, adding brutality and agressive atitude to the music, the songs differ from each other, some are faster, others a bit slower, but always in a fast paced death metal tempo, much in the style of Vader(Poland). The EP ends with a cool instrumental piece, with cool riffing and leads and a nice atmospheric touch. I enjoyed this release, but will expect that a future release from this band comes with a much carefull production, minding that, the music is good and well written, and should make it to the playlist of death metal fans who appreciate a more raw and old school influenced band.
